Tottenham and Liverpool fans unite to condemn ticket, flight and hotel prices for Champions League final
While Tottenham and Liverpool found a way to reach the Champions League final, their supporters are having slightly more trouble securing a way to Madrid. On Tuesday, Liverpool pulled off a miraculous comeback to beat Barcelona 4-0 after being 3-0 down from the first leg, while the following night saw Spurs come from 3-0 down on aggregate against Ajax, scoring three second-half goals to set up an all-English final on June 1.Liverpool and Tottenham fans have united over prices for the Champions League final2

However, anyone hoping to make the trip to the Spanish capital will have to fork out a hefty sum, with match tickets, flights and hotels all drastically increasing in price since the finalists were confirmed.EasyJet is charging 709 for a flight from London Luton on May 31, up from 178 two days prior, and 751 to go from Liverpool John Lennon Airport, which would have cost 260 at the start of the week. This has not gone down well with fans of both clubs, and the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust and Spirit of Shankly have joined forces to issue a statement calling for transparency from organisers UEFA.The statement read: “Our joy at reaching the final is tempered by the prices of travel, accommodation, and tickets, and by the allocation of tickets. “Prices of flights to Madrid and surrounding towns have rocketed by up to 840%.“Hotel rooms are over 1,000 a night and we are hearing stories of room bookings being cancelled and resold at vastly inflated rates.“Ticket prices of in excess of 500 are also extortionate. And there needs to be transparency from UEFA and our clubs in how tickets are priced and allocated.Lucas Moura was the hero for Spurs as his hat-trick sent them through to next month’s final2

“For many fans, this final is not a one-off event. It is the culmination of a journey that has seen fans spending thousands of pounds travelling to six cities in each clubs campaign, bringing the spectacle and atmosphere that is a key part of the product so prized by television.“It is time to stop cashing in on fan loyalty.

“As the independent supporter organisations at both clubs we are calling for:– A cap on ticket pricing– Transparency over allocation– Consumer protection measures to stop prices being forced up exponentially and to stop practices such as repricing existing deals.”Liverpool will be hoping to win the European Cup/Champions League for the sixth time and first since 2005, while Tottenham have reached this stage of the competition for the first time in their history.Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino said he is “suffering” for Spurs and Liverpool fans because of the cost of visiting Madrid, while Liverpool counterpart Klopp also expressed his sympathy for supporters.“Yesterday I was calling some hotel to try and book some rooms because I don’t know if my family is going to be there, some family, some people from Argentina,” said Pochettino.“I wanted to book and it was so difficult and the prices are so crazy.”Klopp said: “How can you have finals in Kiev [where Liverpool played last year’s Champions League final] and Baku? I don’t know what these travel guys have for breakfast.”
